This book is the catalog for an exhibition of drawings or works on paper by Jean Michel Basquiat They were all bought by a couple who were early fans of the artist The great thing about Basquiat s drawings is that some of the works have as much color, energy and detail as his paintings but on a smaller scale Basquiat s signature motifs are all present these are a treat to see The book begins with a short biography of Basquiat and some background on the collectors This is followed by an essay about Basquiat s practice of working on paper Then there is the plates section There is a short introduction for each drawing or for certain drawings that full under a specific theme There are not a lot of drawings in the exhibition, around twenty, but it s still an enjoyable book All of the drawings are vividly reproduced on quality paper in a sturdy hardcover binding The overall presentation of the book is very nice If you are a new Basquiat fan this is not the book to start with Seek out one of his retrospective books For die hard fans this is recommended.
