If you visit Amsterdam you must go to the Rijksmuseum If you enjoy art and history you will love the Rijksmuseum The museum contains the world s foremost collection of Dutch Masters and giants of the art world like Rembrandt and Van Gogh There are also numerous works of art that depict the Golden Age of Dutch history during a time when The Netherlands was one of the richest and most advanced countries in the world.Over the last 10 years I have visited the Rijksmuseum on three separate occasions and I wish I had this book with me during those visits. The last times I visited the Rijksmuseum I used the audio program and booklet provided by the museum Although I learned a lot from the standard museum materials I found them too academic and too dry What I really liked about The New Rijksmuseum by Marko Kassenaar is that the author provides the essential highlights of the important pieces in a way that is easy to understand Also I really enjoyed the little tidbits of cultural information and interesting facts that are often missing in most guides but are included in so many of the descriptions in this book. The last time I was at the Rijksmuseum a few years ago they were renovating some of the major sections Now I have this essential guide so I can learn about all the important highlights right from my Kindle app

The book is really helpful in giving an overview of what I will see at the museum when I visit next year There is a pretty good number of photos of the works Of course, not everything that is mentioned is pictured I got the Kindle edition because that is how I usually read books these days, much easier to handle a physical book The disadvantage in this case is that the resolution of the images isn t great When I try to enlarge a picture to see the detail the text is talking about, it just turns to fuzz My attempt at a solution is to buy some print books of some of the key Golden Age artists, which hopefully will allow me to see the details of the paintings When those books arrive, we ll see if that works I figure that the I know about a painting before I go see it in person, the better I will be able to appreciate its features, and really see what is there.

This is a beautiful book with pictures from the Netherlands National Museum It depicts cathedral like buildings and houses such Dutch masters as Rembrandt and Vermeer This was a country with rulers who spent money on art and science Also depicted, are collections of silverware, furniture, earthenware and glass There is a vast number of beautiful pictures and a great description of each picture and itemI found myself glued to the pages, enjoying this culture of the arts, learning a lot of history along the way I particularly enjoyed Rembrandt s Jewish Bride and found the depiction of The Holy Family interesting painting included Mary s parents, sisters and brothers, as well as Joseph s family.

As a tourist who saw the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam before renovations I am one who can appreciate this book I am forward to seeing the New Rijksmuseum For now I ll read this e book. The summaries for major art pieces in this e book are interesting Of course, only the principal pieces are in this book and many can be seen with an actual visit The book reminds me of the world class quality of Amsterdam museums.Amsterdam it s a great city The Rijksmuseum and nearby Leidesplein have good fun, bars and restaurants for all tastes There s also a traditional Dutch cuisine restaurant next to Leidesplein which is very much worth a visit. This is a good e book but the travel DVDs about Amsterdam and The Netherlands are even better.
